My third week of training…

Marathon If you haven’t been following the blog, here is a little catch-up:

At the end of August I decided to sign up for a 10k benefit race. My fiancĂ© convinced me that I’d be fine, and it would be a fun thing to do. My first mistake was believing her! After signing away my life, I decided to give myself a little endurance test to see how bad things were going to be. I quickly learned that things were going to be bad… very bad, actually. I could barely get around the block twice before I nearly keeled over and died.

Somehow I was still convinced that I could do it. I recouped over the next couple days and tried again. This time, I wasn’t on the floor dying after the second lap — just sweating like a mad man and completely out of breath. And so I got it in my head that I was improving.

With each run I felt less out of shape and disgusting. After week 2 I increased my laps to 3 and now here were are at week 3 and I’m proud to announce that I’ve increased my laps to 4.

Running Tip
If your iPod/iPhone earbuds keep flying out of your ears while you’re running, try pulling up the white connector piece closer to your chin. This will prevent the wires from flailing around when the wire swings and hopefully keep them in your ears.

On Sunday I increased my laps to 4 and tried to walk an extra lap to cool my body down. This is when I learned that my knee was having serious issues. Just walking around once made my knee feel like it was going to explode. I talked to my friends over at The Wayward Winos and Paul mentioned that he uses a knee brace to help with his knee pain. So with that advice, I’m going to seek out a knee brace and see if I don’t fall apart from running. I was able to keep up the pace on Tuesday and Friday by running 4 laps again. Things are looking promising!

Here are my runs from Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday:

I’ve found that hate the earbuds so much that I needed to resort to buying a different name. First I went with Sony buds with little rubber slips over the speakers, but i had bad like since the right ear died after 2 months… Real crappy product IMO. I believe it may not have been sweat resistant, but I should have been notified.

Recently I bout the Nike Flow… They headphones are actually made by Philips, so we shall see. They are very comfortable and they say they are sweat resistant, but the sound quality is sub par…

Anyway, thanks for the shout out!
