After watching UFC 104, I knew there was going to be a boat load of people talking trash on the Machida/Shogun decision. And sure enough fighters around the world were saying that “Shogun was robbed”, “he deserves a rematch”, “the judges are blind”, and “it’s simple math.” I must admit, even after I watched the fight the first time I was thinking that Machida was really lucky getting the decision.
My fourth week, my fifth week, my sixth week… all failures. Why failures after all the progress I’ve been making? I think it all started with my knee being injured. I guess I ran too much one day and my body didn’t like it. I decided to give it some time off. Next thing I know my time off started to snowball – work got in the way with business trips, and then Sara got sick, then me… next thing I know it’s race time. I was no where near prepared for it and decided to bail.
The lesson I learned was to not go too far when you know you’re prone to a particular injury. Stick with what you know and what works for you.
For now, I’m back to the home gym… away from the pavement. Amen.
I’m back! If you hadn’t noticed, it’s been a while since my last post. An incredible amount of things have happened since I last posted, so I’ll try to do a recap of everything in the coming days.
If you’ve read my previous article on setting up GMail on the iPhone, you are now using GMail with Google Sync. However, you might not be aware that Google Sync handles your actions on the iPhone differently than might be expected. For instance, clicking the trash button doesn’t mean that the email is getting deleted. So take a few minutes and get acquainted with what’s really happening with your email. I have provided a couple of important tips below, as well as a link to the site explaining it all.
Today is a good day for iPhone owners, who happen to use Google religiously. It has been an incredibly long time coming, but we no longer need my GMailPush application. We no longer need GPush, or any other work around trying to get GMail on the iPhone with Push. Why you ask? Because today Google released an update to Google Sync that allows GMail to sync on the iPhone.
Excited to hear the news, I quickly popped open my “Mail, Calendar, Contacts” settings and turned it on to test it out…
Abe Wagner is one of the fighters on this year’s TUF. I’m cheering for Abe to go on to big things, even if Rampage Jackson is his coach. Jackson proved to be worth nothing in Abe’s first fight, as Abe was being consistently taken to the ground by opponent Justin Wren. Jackson just kept shouting empty tips like, “do something,” or “move now,” “or he keeps getting you with the same thing.” After which, he promptly lost his cool and walked out on Abe. What a great coach!
UPDATE:If you have a long horrendous commute, send an email to commute@wmmr.com describing why it is so bad for a chance to win a helicopter ride to and from work.
I used to think my commute was bad when I was travelling 45 minutes to work each way. Coming from a 5 mile commute before that, 45 minutes felt like forever. I was justified, I thought. However, it wasn’t until I doubled that time that I really knew what a commute was. An hour and a half in the car each morning can completely cripple your day if you’re not careful. So I write to you to spare you a year’s worth of commuting lessons with my 5 ways to hack your commute.
My second week of training has nothing special to report. I was only able to run outside once because of the rain all week, so here are the RunKeeper results.
I’m now able to run 3 laps no problem. While I’m still really far away from the goal of 6.2 miles, or just about 12-13 laps, I am making progress. I have 7 weeks to go. If I increase one lap a week I’ll be up to 10 laps. Considering the runner, that would just be absolutely amazing.
