Reports are appearing this morning about a major security hole in iTunes accounts linked to PayPal. At least one group of scammers has found a way to charge thousands of dollars to iTunes accounts through PayPal. One targeted customer told us, “My account was charged over $4700. I called security at PayPal and was told a large number of iTunes store accounts were compromised.” His email was filled with nearly 50 receipts from PayPall for $99.99 each. He was able to catch it before his bank disbursed funds to PayPal.
iTunes accounts are getting hacked again it looks like – something that is occurring disturbingly often just lately. This time it looks like it is specifically accounts that use Paypal as their payment method – like mine, yay.

Yesterday we reported that Jailbreakme.com works because a of major PDF-based bug in iOS. This bug potentially allows hackers of all kinds to access your personal information stored on your iOS device. We also reported that a temporary solution is available via terminal command lines and working with your iOS device’s internal file system. This solution is not a fix, just a way to warn you every time Mobile Safari attempts to download a PDF file.
Today, Will Strafach has released the same solution via a Cydia-based package called "PDF Loading Warner."
By all accounts, this current security vulnerability in iOS is quite a severe one, and one that could easily lead to some malicious exploits until Apple patches it (which will likely be very soon). In the meantime, of course there’s the jailbreak tool mentioned above – which should help to keep you safe from exploits trying to go that route.
This is not the first time that a jailbreak app has offered a greater level of security awareness and prevention than can be had on a stock iPhone. In the past we’ve seen a firewall app that alerts you to all outgoing connections from your iPhone and lets you approve or deny them on a per app basis, and other similar tools.

Today Apple have issued a letter to iPhone 4 users where they finally address the infamous iPhone 4 reception issue and acknowledge the problem. That’s a good step.
But … they are classifying the problem as entirely a software issue, with signal strength being displayed inaccurately.

The world’s most wanted device is now in the hands of the world’s most foremost tinkerers!
It sure is. The guys at iFixit have done it again. They’ve got their hands on an iPhone 4 and torn it apart while casting their expert eyes over every millimeter of its innards. Their excllent teardown post on it provides a mountain of detail on what’s inside the new iPhone, and also on their process for taking it apart so expertly.
Here’s the first bit of happy news that jumped off the page for me:
While we’re not too busy, let’s talk RAM. Unlike the iPhone 3GS and iPad, which are both equipped with 256 MB, the iPhone 4 has a whopping 512 MB!
